California Redwood & Brass Fountain Pen
Artists: Jim Cantrell & Ryan Jones, Louisville, Kentucky
Wood that once stood in a California logging town now fits in your hand. Jim Cantrell and his grandson Ryan Jones turn reclaimed California Redwood in an old barn woodshed on the outskirts of Louisville — each pen shaped from grain that carries its own history before ink ever touches the page.
The body pairs warm, figured wood with solid brass hardware, giving the pen a satisfying weight. It writes with a Jowo #5 medium or fine nib — a reliable standard among those who take their tools seriously. The cap clips securely and threads onto the barrel, so nothing gets lost.
Each pen arrives with an ink cartridge ready to use, as well as a converter for those who prefer to fill from a bottle.
Onion skin paper and fountain pens have a particular affinity. The paper receives the nib cleanly, without resistance or bleed. These two were made for each other.
